Thanks!

Do you by any chance know what happened in the 28 days later franchise? That's one zombie movie I have watched, but not to the end. From what I have gathered, Cillian Murphy's character and his love interest survive the movie somehow, but given that there's a movie called 28 weeks later with other characters, the infection has not stopped spreading, so it's more like the second scenario and we can assume that the characters don't really survive, even though it's not shown?

I actually haven't gotten around to watching 28 Weeks Later yet (which is terrible, as I love both zombies and Robert Carlisle), but with the original movie, Cillian and his love interest and the teenage girl (sorry, it's been awhile and I don't remember any of the character's names D:) all managed to survive. Cillian's character is shot and they take him to a nearby hospital to do some emergency first aid. It looks pretty bleak and like he might die, but then they do a time skip and show him waking up, and the trio living in a house together a few weeks later. Everyone affected with the virus is basically dying off because of the lack of food and the rage that the virus induces is basically wearing their bodies down. Meanwhile, the surviving, uninfected humans are all starting to get in contact with one another again via radio and are trying to rebuild society. So, it's more like the first scenario, but not having seen the follow up, I'm not sure how it all ultimately panned out and how they brought the zombies back in.

Interesting side-note, but the original ending of the movie actually had Cillian's character dying on the table while they were trying to give him first aid, followed by a shot of the other two members of their trio walking down the hallway and leaving the hospital. The director intended it to show that they were going to keep fighting and that there was still some hope, and also as a sort of framing device, since it started with him in the hospital and would end with him in a hospital. But apparently test audiences largely hated it and thought it was too bleak, so they changed it up to the current ending.

Thank you, this is really interesting!

The 'zombie' outbreak was in the UK, the island was quarantined, the main characters find a safe place and eventually get rescued, the infected people start starving to death.

Cue 28 Weeks Later where they're starting to clean up and recolonize the UK, using safe zones. Then, through a serious of utterly bullshit lapses in security that involve a level of idiocy that's difficult to comprehend, given the nature of the disease they were dealing with... the disease gets transferred from an unaffected carrier to a normal person, infection breaks out in compound, and through another series of utter failures at security, everything goes to hell, blah blah blah... And then at the end it's implied that somehow the protagonists managed to spread the infection to mainland Europe.

SO. Ignoring the existence of the second movie, the characters of the first survived. It's easy to ignore the second movie, because it's so stooped in everyone being utterly idiotic and incompetent for it to ever occur that... yeah.

If you take the sequel into account, though... yeah, a lot of people are fucked. But probably not the entire world, actually, since the Rage virus is way too infectious, fast-acting, and dramatic for there to be any real way for them to infiltrate transportation, and since Rage zombies are actually just crazy people and not dead, they're limited to human capabilities. So no crossing large bodies of water or mountains or deserts or...

Thanks!

Huh, I thought the infection spread to Europe (and for some reason, India?) in the first movie.
