I heard of it in Farscape fandom, stuck strictly to gen reading SG1, ventured occasionally into slash in Sentinel, and read gen/slash/het indiscriminately in Highlander and since. (Obviously this is the order I was wandering into the fandoms, not the order the fandoms existed.)
