Kingdom Hearts. It did and it did not help that I had many real life friends in this fandom too.

Me too, especially after KHII came out. Thought the worst personally involved experience I had in the fandom was a Sora/Riku fan who thought Sora/Riku was obviously canon, the pairing was being discriminated against by Google search and TV Tropes, and her personal head-canon was that Kairi is absolutely nothing to Riku but a tool to get Sora's attention. When I told her I found that incredibly creepy, she told me I was taking it too seriously...

Agh, yeah. The girl you're mentioning only sounds like a smidgen crazier than the baseline fangirl for Kingdom Hearts when I was in it. They made me wish I wasn't in the fandom sometimes. I was a Sora/Riku shipper and even though I didn't like Kairi I never hated her or bashed her. I just felt Nomura underutilized her and made her more of an object than a real character. I think I was also unimpressed with the voice acting, but then again, I was harsh on a lot of the voice acting.

But I'm getting off track. What I mean to say is, trying to read any fanfic or any conversation about the Sora/Riku pairing without someone bashing Kairi and everyone else rallying around that was extremely difficult. It was really gross and common.

I had to completely ignore the Organization XIII wank. I carefully plotted and picked my place in fandom by the time KHII came out because I had learned by then. The fans are crazy. In fact, the fandom was kind of the reason I took a step back and looked at the Kingdom Hearts series and really had to ask myself how much I liked where the series was going and if I even cared anymore. I found I didn't and I haven't played a game since KHII.

The whole thing happened not all that long ago either, it's the reason I'm no longer in any Sora/Riku comms..

I still really love the series, but I'm not nearly as involved in fandom as I used to be. For one thing I have this unfortunate habit of loving unpopular things, Riku was my favorite in KHI, but I adore Kairi. My absolute favorite character since Chain of memories has been Namine. Roxas? meh, I'll take Sora any day. Xion was the big reason I finished Days. I love Diz/Ansem the Wize, he's my third favorite character, Riku is still second. I'd rather have more Disney villains, and Disney focus in general than any more Org XIII stuff.

I haven't played 3D yet, but from what I've heard I'm not sure I'm going to like it. If you ever feel like playing another one I rather like BbS.
