First and foremost, Touhou is a GAME. Don't let anybody or anything tell you otherwise. More specifically, it's a shooter game where you shoot women or girls with lots and lots of bullets: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDC5LHRz7fI

Due to a surprising combination of amazing fans, amazing music and the creator's outright approval of fanmade stuff, the Touhou series have become the most creative and downright devoted fandoms I've ever seen. (Oh, and just so you know, the games are independent, created by only one person.)

Wow, I have no idea what's going on in that gameplay video, but it is mesmerizing.

Simply put, you are the girl at the bottom. You must shoot all the enemies (including the girl at the top) while evading all their bullets.

It's like Space Invaders, just replace the aliens with characters from Japanese mythology. And yes, it's mesmerizing

Keep in mind that's also a late-game stage on the absolute hardest difficulty.
