Re: Most unpleasant fandom you've been in?
Kingdom Hearts. When the first game came out it was okay. A bit wanky, buckets of misogyny and homophobia, but nothing you wouldn't expect from a fandom where the average age was 15. Then the second game came out, most of the older fans jumped ship, canon turned into a clusterfuck of fail, and ten million hot bishounen characters were introduced.
A close second would probably be SPN. Not because the fans are unusually bad or anything, but because the ones that I've been constantly exposed to through tumblr and dA take the show way too seriously. Like, it's a show about two guys fighting the forces of hell and they're writing twenty page manifestos about the deeper meanings of Dean's eye color. Or, talking about how their ship of choice is totally canon and if you'd read Kafka you would understand what the show writers were really trying to say.
