I've been kicking this line around in my head for a fic, but I'm *pretty* sure it comes from something else. My internet's being slow and I'm about to go to work, but does anyone recognize it? Last thing I want is to be another Cassie Claire

(I think it was in the context of somebody picking a lock or something and somebody asks how they learned to do that and that was the response).

Isn't that something Chase says, in Runaways (Marvel comics)? I vaguely recall a scene like that, with him picking a lock and making a quip about his past.

"Sign of a misspent youth" is a ubiquitous cliché, so I think a simple variant upon it like this is generic enough that you don't need to worry.
