And I normally don't have issues with age disparity, but for some reason, when you add in River's mental illness plus the age disparity plus the way Jayne tries to sell them out..... it was just icky for me. And the few fics I did try to read did not deal with any of those issues in a way that worked for me at all.

I can completely understand that, especially because he tried to sell them out. If the pairing had only one of those things going for it maybe it wouldn't make me as uncomfortable, but when you add in all three...it turns me off quick, too.

People tend to gloss over issues in fanfic far too often.

Sometimes I can stand a fair amount of ellision, but other things must be explained.

Like why Snape wants to sleep with Harry or why Tara is suddenly attracted to Spike or River and Jayne making babies.

Because...Lily? IDK, I try not to think about it.

Heeeee.

I can buy many explanations. There just must be one. LOL

The age disparity or the power dynamics are what I imagine most people ship them for. I have no real clue though. Hmm...

I don't like underaged Snarry (mostly because I'm not all that into the power differential kink and also because I can't imagine any version of a workable relationship between the two of them at point), but I really like fics where Harry is an adult and he and Snape both come to appreciate each other.

I also have a huge fondness for gen or other pairing stories where Snape basically adopts Harry--has all his ideas about who Harry is turned on his head and rescues him from the Dursleys. It is a sickness. I know. *hangs head*

Hehe, I can't blame you because we all have something we like but feel we shouldn't. Plus, it's not even something to be ashamed of, it's happy gen! Who doesn't like that occasionally? And Harry had a terrible childhood so wanting to take him out of that situation is a normal reaction imo. Snape or not, he probably would've had a much better childhood.

Oh, yeah. Wouldn't have taken much for his childhood to drastically improve. :)
