Re: Popular fanon pairings you can't stand

Lily/Snape to me is one of the LEAST likely ships, up there with Draco/Hermione.

Like, just breaking it down...

- he was prejudiced against Muggles and Muggleborns (calling Petunia a "muggle" in a derogatory way, dismissing Petunia entirely because she was "just a muggle", calling every muggleborn "Mudblood"). That, on its own, kills it for me in any way shape or form.

- Not only that, but he wanted to be a Death Eater. So basically, not only was he perpetuating discrimination against Muggleborns, he was fully willing (and wishing) to join in the genocide against them.

- He was interested in the Dark Arts, which we know Lily despised. He thought it "just a laugh" when dark magic was used on an innocent girl, and invented violent dark magic like Sectumsempra that was capable of murdering someone quite easily. Creepy? Hell yes.

- He was utterly emotionally dependent on Lily. You can even tell, just as a kid. He didn't like it that she was crying over Petunia, he didn't like that she felt any sort of sympathy for Remus, he couldn't handle the idea of her liking James Potter ("I won't let you!"), and when she cut him from her life, he spent the rest of his life obsessing over her. Everything he did was about her, from protecting Harry to bullying him.

...So basically, Snily just makes me want to puke.

This is like all my feelings right here.

I think one of things that really smacked me over the head with "YOU WILL NEVER SHIP THIS!" is the scene with Snape in Grimmauld Place with the picture, and letter. Lily has been dead for about 15 years, and Snape symbolically steals her "love" meant for Sirius, and rips her away from her family. That just creeped me out so much.

THIS. That bothered me so much. Especially because of the significance it had for Sirius and Harry... Snape must have had plenty of pictures of Lily from when they were friends, but he had to go and rip a rare photo of her family? Plus the symbolism of him throwing away Harry and James reminds me of when he was willing to let them die if it meant Lily lied (and Dumbledore told him "you disgust me" for it).
