really? did we watch the same first season?
Basically EVERY dialogue that centered around Theon in season 1 was about him being NOT as Stark, but a captive (he got remarks about this by Tyrion, Ros, Maester Luwin [twice], Robb ... - there's also Jaime's remark to Jory, that Theon looked like a shark on a mountaintop, or something like this...) I felt the series made a very clear point in him being a hostage and not a family member...
and yeah, no puppy for him...

Yeah, seriously. If anything I thought they were emphasizing it too much, like his betrayal might become too obvious. Apparently not...
