I'm partial to DW myself, but sadly they're more likely to find fandom friends on LJ. Perhaps they can do a user/community search and choose based on which site has the people or communities they're most interested in. If they have LJ and it goes down in flames, as many expect, they can still migrate to DW. It might be better for them to be on LJ and if a migration happens, they can move with their fandom friends rather than having a DW and waiting for a migration to happen so they can meet people. That's assuming the fandoms they're interested in aren't already active on DW.
