Wow. I like you, call me young again.

On topic, this sounds complicated. How does one even start this monster of a project.

Have 30 artist underlings, and 30 music underlings.

Yeah, he doesn't even do much of the art anymore. No music. Just writing.

I thought the only art he sources out is some of the stuff in the flashes, and all of that he credits. So if you count, like, 96% of the comic's art as "not very much", then yeah. He doesn't do much of the art anymore.

Also he never did any of the music, so that's kind of a moot point.

Considering the backgrounds are 90% filter raped stock images/google images // the blatant copy pasting...yeah, he still doesn't do most of the art.

he does most of the art-- a lot of the act 5 flashes had major contributions from the art team, but almost all the act 6 flashes have been all hussie art, except for the playable ones and the ministrife

oh, you weren't actually trying to talk about the process behind the art in mspa, you were just trying to bash it

whoops

You don't know what you are talking about. Yeah, he borrows backgrounds, but if you look, other then the flashes, almost nobody else does the art.

Um, it's a pan-fandom applicable Star Wars meme?

Anyways, if you're referring to how the artist/author started Homestuck, he had a number of smaller scale webcomics before this one. Two ended up incomplete, and the third finished up around 1000 something pages. It used some animated GIF pages on occasion, but nothing huge and flashy. And even with Homestuck it started out small. A small flash panel here, a thirty second animation there... and several years later you end up with 13 min videos and full 8-bit RPG minigame walkaround.

If you're referring to how a fan gets into it, you just start on page one and power through.

If you mean the author, he spends a huge chunk of his free-time working on the comic, copy-pastes and cuts corners where he can, and pretty much has transcended humanity as we know it.

He also says he simplified the art as much as he could to save time, which is why most of the panels look... like they look.

Also, I think this is the first time I've seen a positive reaction towards "Let me tell you about Homestuck". And certainly the first time somebody sounds actually pleased at being linked to a video!

Anon, you are quite something else. C:

To put it simply, I kinda fucking rock.

Actually, I don't understand why someone would react unpleasantly to someone else's enthusiasm for something they like. I mean, it's not your thing, just don't read, but, damn it all, isn't it nice to watch someone enjoy something?

(Anonymous) 2012-11-21 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's the sheer volume. It's actually calmed down some, but there were moments last year where the fandom would simply not stop talking and posting about Homestuck to anyone and everyone, even people who weren't interested, so the Homestuck fandom gained a reputation of being obnoxious on pair with My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic.

(I'm pretty sure you meant "How do I start reading?" so...) Start here. Click the little arrows to move forward. When you see a little button that says "read pesterlog", click it, and read it. This is where most of the story takes place, and it seems like a stupid thing to point out I some people didn't realize that at first and ended up having to backtrack.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-21 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
That is what I meant. Thanks!

You're welcome! I hope you enjoy it.

Oh wait I forgot that most pages have text links not little arrows but I'm sure you know what I meant. I am kind of sleep-deprived right now lol

I give this spiel to everybody... read to the page called [s] WV: Ascend.

This story is big and long and it starts slow because of world building. Some say that's a flaw. I disagree, but most agree that if you read that far, you'll have gotten the full feel of this comic. If you still don't like it, don't bother going further.

I say this cause a lot of people give up around, say, page 30, get told "no keep going" and the ones who actually do admit they end up liking it after all.

Of course, if you legit don't like it, no point in torturing yourself. Hence the need for a reference point to be the litmus test on if you are in or not.
