I would recommend downloading the pin toolbar. It's pretty unobtrusive on my laptop and makes pinning websites a snap.
I also love that you can follow just the boards you like instead of an entire account so your "dashboard" doesn't end up flooded with people's irrelevant posts like on tumblr.
Mine is pretty random because once I get near technology I get easily distracted and turn into a hoarder.
Allow me to warn you that you can waste hours on pinterest and end up with boards full of pins you don't actually have a use for. I started mine to keep track of recipes and now I have 40+ boards of pretty pictures of tattoos and volcanoes and fungi and stuff I stumbled across and had to have for reasons I no longer remember.
Have you checked out someone's pinterest account to get a feel for it?
They also have secret boards now. Those are private and only people you choose can view them.

When I first got my pinterest I remember pinning bookmarks and pictures and then being able to delete them off my browsers and hard drive with glee. :D I really enjoy not having to sort pictures out of Downloads into sub-folders of My Pictures now.
Heads up: you can't pin websites that don't contain pinnable images or video so if you make a folder for fic some won't pin. LJ & DW will because you can pin user icons.
eta: I do realize you can save pictures directly to folders but that is too much clicking for this lazy lizard. I'd rather do them all in one go while listening to music.
