hi,
I was wondering if all you worldly people had hints on how to go about attending a club. i joined meetup and i'm going to a meetup tomorrow of some 40 people and I'm so so nervous.
Mostly because I am REALLY bad at remembering faces (especially from photos) and i'm worried i won't be able to find the group or integrate (lol) myself properly.

I'm not completely sure about any of the other stuff, but my tactic when doing new things have always been find someone else who looks slightly lost and/or alone and just go up to them and say hi. Usually works out pretty well.

Some 40 people? DON'T WORRY AT ALL. If there are that many people, chances are everyone else is going to be like you and a bit clueless and not able to remember who's who. You're not going to be alone in being somewhat ??? about stuff.

Here's my super simple club primer:
- what is the club about? do you LIKE what it's about? make sure you do before you attend and make sure you are comfortable with what happens and what they do
- come up with several questions- 'hey, what's your favourite-' 'I'm interested in ________, would you be-', that kind of thing, keep conversation going when you start something up.
- remember, talking goes TWO WAYS. someone asks you something, you ask them something back in return, if only one person is talking it's awkward as fuck (I'm sure you know what I mean)
- relax!!!! club time is usually 'OH MY GOD, SOMEONE CAN EMPATHIZE WITH ME' time (for me at least). if you DON'T find this happening or if you don't feel comfortable, maybe this is not the club for you. trust me, it might not be you, it might just be the club. this can happen.

that's REALLY ALL. everything else depends on what the club is about. DON'T WORRY ABOUT NAMES. there are so many people no one is going to expect you to remember stuff. if you HAVE to, remember IMPORTANT PEOPLE, like the club president or the nice person who's like 'hey ask me if you have any questions' (there is always one), that's it, everyone else just don't bother until they're worth remembering

but yeah go have fun!!! relax, don't FORCE yourself to talk, but if you hear something interesting then be like 'oh hey that's cool' then say why it's cool but as long as you're not MONOLOGUING DRAMATICALLY at people (seriously don't do this) you're cool too
