Oh yeah, sorry, I did forget to address that. You're definitely right, there. It makes me wonder if they only report very obvious breaches of the ToS, or if they report anything that might possibly be breaking the ToS on the grounds that the story gets more reviews.

Which frankly, I think is shitty behavior.

I had a story that someone felt should have been rated R (not PG-13) back in the day. Had like 350+ reviews and wasn't even very long. Was deleted because someone reported it instead of just PMing me to suggest I change the rating--even though I /asked/ if people thought the rating needed changed. NOT THAT I'M BITTER. OR ANYTHING. (Not really, the story was terrible.)

I think the spiteful attitude is really unnecessary and is frankly harmful to the fanfiction scene. We need more people to be supportive of others, not to bring other people down, particularly out of jealousy. Granted, my stuff doesn't get flooded with comments anymore (I don't write for popular fandoms like I used to), but I am satisfied with my work and more importantly, happy to make friends with the people who do take the time to review. I feel that's a much better use of my time than trawling around looking for fics who get more reviews than mine in the hopes that one of them violated the ToS.

-_- Ugh sorry, rambled there. But I agree with you.

I keep a sample of fic on ff.net. They're my stories that I know can, in no way, be construed as higher than PG-13. Then in the a/n I tell people to find me on AO3 for a more comprehensive collection. I don't write in any major fandoms anymore, so most people will hop over and read my AO3 stuff. I've noticed an increase in traffic that way.

Ah, when this happened, it was probably in 2003 or 2004, so a long time ago. That's a good idea, though, for several reasons. I mean, it gives traffic to A03, and it prevents the story from being deleted because one person thought it was rated too high.

Might keep this in mind if I ever write anything I'm not sure about. The sad thing is, what I posted was definitely only about the PG13 level...as I wasn't nearly pervy enough as a teenager to even think of anything rated higher than that.
