Personally? Neither. I'm not big on physical contact.

For fanworks? Kind of depends on the feel your going after. Kisses are more romantic, but hugs are little more diverse and under-utilized, imo?

Kisses, but only from someone I'm interested in sexually. I want no platonic physical contact please, and hugs from anyone make me feel smothered (I'm a small person.)

Hugs. I'm not a big fan of kissing (that is, mouth on mouth), even with people I'm attracted to. Cheeks are okay, and other dry kisses.

Generally, hugs. If I'm horny, kisses! But hugs make me feel amazing. I bother my parents and my sister for hugs like, 10 times a day, each.
