Maybe thats what universe I know him from, because I saw him in an Avengers book, and he:
1. Insults and belittles Jan as a disgusting mutant just because he's feeling frustrated
2. then after she shrinks down and hides under a dresser, sics a colony of ants on her, nearly killing her.

Yeah, that's not technically the Avengers. That's the Ultimates which was Marvel's big reboot about a decade ago. That version of Hank is a horrible human being.

616 (or the main comics verse)Hank has struggled with some pretty serious mental health issues, opened aid houses for victims of domestic abuse and done pretty much all he could to right the wrong he inflicted on Jsn.

Basically not the same character by a long shot.

Just to add to what dazzledfirestar wrote, in the Ultimates' verse, EVERY Avenger becomes a caricature of their worst traits: Tony is perpetually drunk, Captain America seems to have gone to the deep right -for what I remember- and couldn't care less about the people, Thor is not believed to be a god for a while, and the less is said about Hulk, the better. (Also, it's the one universe where Wanda/Pietro incest is canon)
