Okay, can someone tell me what "knotting" is in fanfic? I thought it had something to do with SPN fandom and a werewolf AU and, like, tying dicks together or something (lordy), but I've seen that tag on other fic in other fandoms, and there were no dicks being tied together that I could see, so....what's it all about?

basically it's dog sex in human form. generally with werewolf characters but sometimes they like to throw in some dog-on-man action to mix it up.

This was Teen Wolf fic, so it makes sense to include this....I guessss....although I still don't remember that particular detail in the stories I read, but maybe I just glossed right over it in horror.

It refers to how canine penises work.

If you absolutely must know:

The base swells towards the end of the copulation so it remains firmly trapped inside the female (presumably to make sure the semen doesn't leak out and ensure that fertilization occurs?), and stays that way for a while, like, half an hour or so?

Some animals (canines specifically, as far as I know) have a "knot" on the penis that swells upon orgasm. In animals, this prevents the female from pulling away immediately, thereby ensuring that all the sperm makes it into the female. In this way, chances of pregnancy are much increased. Knotting FIC consists of giving one or more of the male characters a knot.

I don't really know why it has become so prevalent in certain fandoms, but on an objective level I can see how some would connect it to werewolf fic. It pretty much squicks me out %100, so yeah....
