The movies had a lot of questionable directing, but the actors did what they could. Movie Bellatrix is pretty close to book version, but I think some people get fanfic confused with the books and think the book version was more developed than it is.

The books weren't that nuanced, but they were open to interpretation. They're weren't necessarily campy villains (Voldemort and Bellatrix.) IMO, they were both played incredibly campy and over the top. The same lines and characters could've been played in a more realistic way. I think that's what people are disappointed about.
