Remember that Rapunzel wasn't officially added to the princess line until about a year after her film came out.

There's some Jessie merchandise, but she's part of a separate franchise so...
Basically Merida probably doesn't have much of a chance to continually be marketed and merchandise'd unless she is part of the line. Imo.

If the film does well, and people continue to express an interest in it, Merida will be around, just like merch for nearly every other Pixar film (besides...Ratatouille, I guess? but that film was never really a super toy-selling one to begin with). I don't personally think that slapping the "Disney Princess" label onto Merida will help. And honestly, despite being a Disney fan, the stuff that the Disney Princess label will zero in on is all the things I did not like about the film, so I'd really, really, really rather they didn't.

If a Disney female is not part of the princess line, they do not get merchandise. Tinkerbell is the only exception to this. Alice will occasionally get stuff, but it's not common.
And actually only a select few Pixar films really still get merchandise (outside of Brave, which is new). Sure WALL-E or whatever might get like, a trading pin from time to time at the parks, but every Pixar movie outside of Toy Story, Cars, Finding Nemo, and to a degree Monsters Inc really haven't gotten merchandise from Disney past their initial release.
I especially want to see where all this Elastigirl merchandise is, because I would love to buy it.

It was glorious enough seeing the 2D purists throw a fit over Rapunzel. The butthurt here will be even greater.
