I've lived in different areas of the country and gone to several different and... yeah it depends a lot. Sometimes even going to a different one across town has a totally different feel.

Though, I want to say, I actually remember getting VERY differing reactions as I got older. Mom used to take me to Star Trek cons with her starting when I was about 8, and comic book shops, and the like. (I love having a geek mom. :D)

When I was little, I remember a lot of squee, even from guys, and the number of people that stopped my mom to tell me "your child is awesome and adorable". Probably the point at which I was around 13, that started to change, because boobs = girly = no longer cute kid = TEH ENEMY or something. It was very strange going in places where I had previously been welcome and having such hostile reactions from people.

I'm sorry. That's really unfortunate about the change because of you growing older. I'm almost glad I didn't have geek parents because then I don't have to deal with the loss of once being "acceptable" and now being unwanted. At least I was made to feel unwanted from the start.

Nobody should feel unwanted >:(

*hugs*

Oh, it's okay. I have a bunch of friends and family who are great and fabulous. Being made to feel unwelcome and unwanted in comic shops and conventions isn't so bad. What do I care what/how grown men who should know better think or act? I haven't been physically attacked yet. So I'm fine. I don't go into comic shops now and I no longer work that geek job that gave me so many problems. It all works out.

Thank you for the hugs though.
