I think it's the question that's the problem. I never ask "So what do guys see in this video game?" because that would be stupid. I know I'm just going to get the answerers opinion generalized as what the masses like.

Every person is an individual. Oh my gosh that's crazy. And, and, and- get this! They like things for their own, personal reasons.

Yes, there are there are things that can make games more "welcoming" or "palatable" for a minority but really they're just looking for the same things white male gamers are. They're looking to have fun.

it's the highest rated show? wow, i had no idea!

even though i do get annoyed with its more problematic sides sometimes, i love it too and i laugh hysterically all the way through it.

I'd change the last two to

Ravenclaw = secondary good
Hufflepuff = wastebin of Sorting
terabient: Celica eats Pocky and plays video games (celica: gaming is srs business)

I dunno. Portal's a very beginner friendly game, and one that's gotten a lot of critical acclaim from *outside* the video game industry as well. I don't think Portal has substantially more female gamers than other popular games, but it does attract more casual players, or people who don't normally play games, and I suspect there are more women among that group than men.

Also, I think it's important to keep in mind that when it comes to online gaming, and particularly competitive online gaming--most women won't reveal their gender while playing because there's a really, really high chance somebody will start acting like a total douchebag to her. If your only source of information regarding Portal's demographics come from male gamers who notice more female players than usual, keep in mind that they've probably played with a lot more women than they've realized.

being slytherin doesnt make you a bad person you goof

on a related note, ive always identified as hufflepuff and pottermore stuck me in it last night, so WOO.

They would be really cute together, but my actual first reaction to 'why they aren't together' has more to do with 'Well, it's based in the 1920's. Not something you could really openly be in most of the western world at that point' than it does 'It's Disney'.

I'm sorry OP. Being on the outside looking in always sucks.

I wish I had the excuse of liking things that aren't popular. I want to talk about stuff that seems popular, but my problem has been running afoul of people looking for someone to feel superior to - maybe they have aspirations of BNF-dom, maybe they just feel a sense of ownership of the fandom/com/etc. - and winding up getting smacked with a lot of thinly-veiled condescension when I poke my head in the door. I mean, just because I'm new to a particular corner of fandom doesn't mean I'm new to liking whatever the fandom is about nor does it mean I need someone to be my fandom mentor. The vast majority of people don't do this, mind, but one or two in a comm (or a room - this has happened in-person at cons) who passive-aggressively try to set themselves up as some kind of fandom den mom/dad can really derail my attempts to join the party. (This is not to be confused with people who command attention because they are genuinely charismatic and interesting.)

/making it all about me

I don't consider people with hobbies in fandom to be weird or strange.

However, when someone can't distinguish reality from fiction, I side-eye.

American football.

I'm used to just dealing with American Neilson ratings so that is what it was in regards to lol.

Man this is an extreme reaction. "Your problem sounds really stupid, stop reading these books because obviously they're making you dumb"

OP may be overreacting but people do that sometimes. Chill.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-28 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
She was nuanced in the books but I definitely think they went overboard at having her upset over Joffrey's actions. In the book she pretty much looked the other way. If she was bothered it was because what Joffrey did (like having Ned killed) caused her problems as opposed to moral issues.

I had so much fun. I stayed up way longer than I should have. I paid for it this morning but I count it an acceptable loss.

Would do again.

Mixed feelings. It's a toss-up, because I don't want the nonsexual part of their relationship lost (for the reasons OP mentioned).

OTOH, it would be hilarious. /shallow

Be capitalized, English should.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-28 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
LOL as if Sansan is a troll opinion and not the most popular ship in the fandom.

jerks in Gryffindor.

This too. I mean really. Anyone remember Percy?

Re: Physical acts you have a non-sexual thing for?

(Anonymous) 2012-11-28 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
There's a moment in Stargate SG-1, where Jack's brain has been overloaded with information and everyone thinks he's probably going to die after saving the world. He can't really communicate with people -- both because he's busy building a big save-the-world thing and also because the overload sapped his ability to speak English -- but he just reaches out and puts his hand on Teal'c's face...and it gets me *every* damned time.

Also, any time he hugs people.

Basically, any time there's nonsexual male affection, I'm a happy, happy duck. People can yell all day long about how "male friendships ARE EVERYWHERE!!!" but affectionate, physical displays of those friendships? Those aren't nearly enough places.

It gave me Hufflepuff even though I expected Slytherin or Ravenclaw.

Then again, I'm way more competitive than I am ambitious - if that makes sense...

yeah I tend to keep up with the daily and weekly neilson ratings.

Big Bang Theory is usually right up at the top

Here's the Nov 5th top 10

(Anonymous) 2012-11-28 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
I spent... I'm not sure how long, months at least... thinking "afaik" was an archaic word meaning "I think".

(Anonymous) 2012-11-28 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
I started trying to incorporate some indication of what the fandom is (that would be understandable by people who aren't framiliar with the material already) into the secret graphic itself... but I very rarely post secrets so it doesn't make much of a dent.

The unlabeled secrets that kill me are the ones about obscure things that run along the lines of "I wish more people knew what this was." Well, golly! Maybe you should tell us?
