The story of my life. I've recently found few good friends that I can talk fandom with but that's a totally different story when you want to contribute to the whole fandom and no one acknowledges your input.
But I think that's the spirit of online fandoms anyway. People care about the popular circles and if one person dislikes a fic you're automatically disqualified for the rest of your days in the fandom.
:(
But, it can't stop you from doing what you love. Do it somewhere else and don't let the bad fandom see it.

DA

I had to watch all of Wizards vs Aliens for work. Still sad there's no RTD-scripted episode, but I fucking loved all of it. I just adore Michael and Ursula.

On the contrary, I love the show. I just want it to be what it once was.

And guess what? He has. It's why they haven't had sex. and, everything willing, will continue on as such.

Depends where they are. In the UK, for instance, there's Public Lending Right, which means authors get something akin to royalties when their books are borrowed. Ordinarily that's an incentive for me to look for a book in the library rather than wait for it to show up secondhand, but if it's someone I really don't want to give money to, I'll skip it.

IDK, he's very amusing in his snarky, biting way. He reminds of quicksilver a lot, only more patronizing and with less family issues.

He's one of those characters that if I met as a real person, I'd despise, but seeing as he's a fictional character, he's very enjoyable to read about.

I read somewhere that one in five players is female, so not quite.

You've just really opened my eyes about Percy. I'd come to dislike the "Percy=asshole!" interpretation in a vague sort of way, without knowing why. I'm not claiming to have intuited any of this stuff; I think I just generally dislike it when a character becomes a kneejerk hate figure, and the great thing about HP canon is that it has room and depth enough for interpretations that remind us of a character's humanity. And I think you're right; Percy is incredibly flawed but, like many pen/rule-pushers in real life, he's got internally consistent reasons for his convictions.

I'd forgotten that it was he who saw Fred die. How very apt that is - and it makes me doubly glad that JK didn't just do the "death to the mean people!" thing. (Doubly because, as the Remus/Tonks death proves, casualties in war are far more likely to be painful and arbitrary, rather than rewards for morality or lack thereof.)

(Anonymous) 2012-11-28 11:20 am (UTC)(link)
What, you're not satisfied by his utter refusal to wear clothes?

(Anonymous) 2012-11-28 11:25 am (UTC)(link)
He's also one of the only male characters in all of comics who gets objectified about as much as most of the female characters. Him and Dick Grayson.

Also he has wings on his ANKLES for some reason.

I don't know about the stereotype, but Russia the character does have a big nose in canon.

Haytham Kenway's true alliegance. I had to replay those sequences due to a botched save and even though there were little hints it still blew me away. I'll probably get the tie-in novel because it portrays his life to the theatre royal and then the full POV of the game.

I was really impressed by the difficulty of the campaign, particularly on FUBAR. Reminds me of WaW and CoD4 on Veteran, back when they weren't fucking around about that being hard mode (nowadays Veteran - from MW2 and beyond - is a joke).

Going up to Mount Bromo! Part 1

[personal profile] al28894 2012-11-28 01:34 pm (UTC)(link)
First off, let me say I'm sorry for posting this so late in the day! No one in my group bought a computer and transferring pictures from your phone to imgur by mobile 3G is something I wish I'll NEVER do again!

Also, I am sorry if the pictures turned out wrong and wonky. I tried my best to resize them using HTML and I don't think I can do any more by phone, so I'm sorry if the images slow down your browser or do anything glitchy.

Going up to Mount Bromo! Part 2

[personal profile] al28894 2012-11-28 01:36 pm (UTC)(link)
(Open the pictures in a new tab to see full size and resolution)

We depart from the hotel at around 11:30 pm because the mountain was just too far away to reach by day. We all slept in the van but sometimes woke up at times during the trip as the van made its way up the Caldera. As for me, I spent the rest of my time looking at the moon and stars as the temperature drops to almost freezing ( the tour guide said that sometimes frost would form on really cold nights. I never knew Jack Frost visited the tropics! )

As the van drove higher and higher, the ground got steeper and steeper until we have to switch to a four-wheel drive, and after just a few minutes another switch to horses and horse-guides. We finally made it to the very edge of the Tengger Caldera just as dawn was breaking. The sight was beautiful.

The three famous volcanoes of East Java! Mount Semeru is the one in the very back. Mount Bromo is the one with in the lower left (the one with the puff of cloud) and the perfect cone in the front is Mount Batok. The Tengger Sand Sea lies below the heavy fog.

Note: though it may look small and unassuming, Mount Bromo is much, much larger than it looks.

After we took the pictures, we all rode back down to our four-wheel drives, and from there drove straight into the Caldera and into the fog. We then traded the drives for another set of horses that took us across the Sand Sea and up all the way to the summit of Mount Bromo.

The Tengger Sand Sea. Foggy as hell!

No, that's not the volcano we are looking for. Also, the fog in the picture is misleading; it was thicker than it looked.

On the slopes of Bromo! Going up...

And up...

...and still a long way to go. And here I would like to gratefully thank all the horses for carrying tourists every day up to the summit.

Peering down into the crater from the rim. I wonder how deep that hole goes...

We eventually rode back down and traversed the Sand Sea back to our drive, which our guide then drove to another part of the caldera. Whatever I was expecting, it was definitely NOT this.

This looks like it was plucked from a Lord Of The Rings movie set!

Seriously, no amount photos can ever capture how green everything was. The Sand Sea was covered in grasses and ferns and there were pine trees all the way up the Caldera walls! For a moment I thought I was in some Western country or out in some strange wonderland.

And the best part of all is that we were the only ones there. There were no tourists, no guides, just me and my family snapping photos like crazy (due to image issues, I can only load two pictures of that place. Sorry... or not. If this is a secret, it'd be best if few knew, right?) I had a hunch that only a few tour guides show this place to the tourists...

After that we went to the Whispering Sands, but they weren't whispering back, so we finally drove back up the caldera to finally eat our breakfast!

And that's it! There were a lot more photos, but due to image issues (and posting from my phone) I can only upload a few of them. I hope this brings out a smile everyone!
