One of my major frustrations with the HP series is that we have Harry as narrator, and he's a bit more unreliable IMHO than other first person narrators because he's a child who's been thrust into a world about which he knows nothing. People are kind to him for the first time in his life, and so his focus is very narrowly restricted to them and he's predisposed to believe them uncritically.I absolutely adore that this fic takes a peripheral character, one who very much gets short shrift in Harry's estimation of him, and gives him a complex and nuanced characterization.

Neville woos Percy with the language of flowers. This is a Neville who is absolutely thrilled with his life and his work and absolutely besotted with Percy who is pretty disappointed with his life actually. The war is over and rebuilding the Ministry has turned out to be rather thankless. Enter a Neville who appreciates Percy for who he is, and what you have is a very sweet courtship fic--like a wonderful vanilla milkshake on a hot day.

I really like stories that humanize Percy, that look for explanations for his behavior beyond, "Percy is a berk." The deep rift between Percy and his family is not so easily overcome, and this fic just aches.

Percy has been divorced for some time, and his son has begun attending Hogwarts where Neville is a professor. The slowly building relationship between the grownups is interspersed with letters from Percy's son about his life at Hogwarts and with George's good natured meddling. This is a really sweet and fun read.

This is a very chilling story that surprised me and disturbed me.

The "Percy is an auror" story is mainly told from the perspective of Molly as she and Arthur find out his secret after he's seriously injured in a battle. There's a lot of really rich background that pays a lot of attention to the book canon, and is done in such a way that you really could believe this is what was going on. One of the rare ffn gems.
