So, which of todays shows do you think is going to age badly
So guys, what currently fashionable trends in tv shows do you think our kids (or in my case grandkids) will be rolling their eyes at? Which shows are going to stand up, and which are going to look hokey?
Re: So, which of todays shows do you think is going to age badly
"What's with all these moral lessons she's 'learning'? What's wrong with her MoralChip? I mean, I know this is an old show, but come on, not even a little Enforced Social Programming as a kid so she knows all this? How does she even function!? This is just so unrealistic! And anyway, everyone knows that a purple Galmican is impossible. I could buy the handy function-dictation system - it's nice that it's automated like that, wonder how they programmed that into the gene base - and even the wired-in TK was okay, if a bit of a stretch, but purple? Do they really think they can just skip over the Galmican Refuge like that? Seriously?"
No, I didn't realize that Enforced Social Programming would spell out ESP before I typed it. And, well, you asked for a few generations down the line... FYI, the Galmicans are a species of alien from Galmica that look pretty much like G4 My Little Ponies. Considering they look nothing like the current and 14th generation, and that humanity has made contact with multiple alien species in some form or another, nobody said much of it. The reason they can't be purple is because Galmicans, due to their spectrum of vision, see purple as an offensive color, like smelling rotten eggs (yes, Galmicans smell color. They see sound and hear taste, and think we're really weird for not doing that way), so whenever a purple Galmican is born via some "genetic freakishness" it's sent out of the community to live in the wild. Eventually the community of purple Galmicans got big enough that they infiltrated the FTL space-travel unit of the Galmican government, and took refuge on Earth. The "proper" Galmicans followed and promptly slaughtered them all, so that their first contact with another sentient species would not be "polluted" by this awful smell/color. Anyway, it was a huge atrocity at the time, and it was one of the greatest factors in the rise of the MoralChip, a brain implant which instills a sense of morality (or in more practical terms, respect for sentient beings and an abhorrence of violence and violent acts) to those with them. They're government mandated by and for everyone born in the Harmonic Alliance, so named because the most technologically advanced of the races hears sizes, and they say all the planets in the Alliance arranged in a 2D starmap a certain way are in perfect symphonic harmony with each other. That starmap, or a simplified version, is the symbol of the Alliance. (Enforced Social Programming is what they were trying before the MoralChip. It was pretty much an Ethics class, taught to very young children until they internalized the message. Since it was more specific lessons (do this, don't do that), the Alliance was aware that it was a broken or potentially breakable system, and it was with relief that they turned to the MoralChip, which gives you more of a "feeling" than specific rules.
And I mean this in a completely non-religious way, but dear Lord, what in the world is my life.

CSI. The main series. All the corpse effects, and the TECHNICAL KNOW HOW will be made fun of even more. The csi effect will looked at with incredulity.
Chuck Lorre sitcoms.
All instances of cgi alongside live action. Although that kind of already happens within a year...
Teen Wolf, even if cgi deer and inhalers and lizards are purposefully cheesy looking.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-29 10:35 am (UTC)(link)I think anything too heavily based on fashion/technology- anything that develops quickly, is going to age terribly.
Also anything that uses slang. That's more of a book thing but when a character says "wicked" now it's like...flashbacks to 2002.

As for today's stuff...I'm going to go with Sherlock BBC. Their reliance on today's technology is going to look very stupid and out of place in 5-10 years, and then charmingly antiquated in 30-50 years.
