Yeah, most of the fic basically totally eradicating Bond as a character bugs more tbh. I liked Q fine, he was a good mixture of amusing and credibly competent while still fallible. But he was on screen for a few minutes and not all that complicated or interesting.

And that there's barely anything shipping Bond with Eve and not even all that much about him with Vesper, even the latter one was really, really canon, is kinda meh, even though not unexpected. I guess cute geeky white boy always trumps everything in that regard.

But I could get with the ship more if the fic was better. Mostly Q gets loads of backstory and characterization and yeah, self-insertion, but Bond is barely recognizable. He's just there to prop up Q in many of the fics. Which is BS since IMO Craig's Bond is a really fascination and layered creation, so fic writers actually have much more to work with character-wise with him. But mostly they just make him a cypher that's vastly inferior to the canon-version Daniel Craig plays. And that sucks all the fun out of it for me.
