John Blake is such a blatant Mary Sue. I groaned when they had him show up Gary fucking Oldman of all people.

Then he's not that different from the Tim Drake that he was obviously inspired by tbh

What Tim Drake do you mean? The fan version? Or the Comics version? The one where he's a kid who cries and adores his idols Dick and Jason? Or the faux 52 version that is not Tim Drake?

Pre-52 Tim was just as much a Gary Stu as post-52 and it's fucking ridiculous when his fans try to pretend he wasn't. When you're the Robin who ~magically~ hunted down Bruce Wayne and also gets to have living parents, you're a fucking Gary Stu. When you canonically suck more at everything than every other bat and bird and yet someone you still get to be the ~best Robin~, you're a fucking Gary Stu. Being praised for being an obsessive little weenie means you're a fucking Gary Stu. Crying doesn't keep you from being a Gary Stu, ESPECIALLY when fucking everybody immediately hugs you every time you do.

Being praised for being an obsessive little weenie

I don't know why this sentence is making me crack up so hard

Ugh I couldn't stand John Blake. He took Gordon's role in Batman Begins (loner cop tries to do good on his own), but made it irritating to watch somehow. In the scene where Bane reads out Gordon's speech and Blake judges Gordon for it? What a little shit, presuming to judge Gordon for something he did under terribly difficult circumstances...Blake probably wasn't even alive when Gordon became a cop! /bitter because Gordon got so little scenes compared to Blake.

THIS. Exactly this. His entire involvement in the plot and being named "Robin" was a middle finger to the comics fandom.

Gordon needed an arc in the third film, but was sadly pushed aside for the sake of Edward Blake being pointlessly wonderful at everything. He had no 3-dimensional aspect to his character and only made the already painfully long film longer.

JGL's a good actor, but his character was a cluster fuck of horribleness.
