I agree with this. I've been wondering how she didn't notice her old clothes still fit the same, and she wasn't gaining weight. Especially at the crazy rate her costume was getting tighter. Two inches over night was worth rechecking her measurements over.

I don't watch Glee. What is this about? Did the character get pregnant or something? I'm sitting here puzzling over this trying to figure it out.

No, one of the other girls was sabotaging her by resewing her costume.

Oh. I thought she was pregnant and didn't know, or had a tumor, or something. I can't brain right now, I have the tired.

The other girl was trying to convince her that she had a weight problem and needed to turn to some pretty self-destructive means to stay thin. It was an awful thing to do, but the show handled it poorly. They made a nice girl seem more foolish than sympathetic. There were a lot ways she could have been manipulated, but gaining two inches in the waist over night while dieting obsessively was breaking suspension of disbelief.

DA

When I first read this thread I thought this was an extra bullying a minor cast member by altering her costumes. Now I can't work out if it's fiction or fact.

but the show handled it poorly.

"Man, Glee sure did handle that subject well," said no one ever. :D

I haven't really watched Glee since season two (except for the Karofsky suicide attempt episode because I adore Max Adler), but I have yet to be convinced that Glee/Ryan Murphy are even capable of handling ANY storyline remotely well.

eating disorders are not exactly logical. back when I was crazy obsessed with my weight and size and eating it wouldn't have mattered if half my clothes fit the same and only some were tight. i would obsess about the tight ones and focus on that. my brain would make excuses saying the other clothes were old or stretched, the tape measure lied, the scale lied, the only thing that was the truth was that i was getting fatter because of these few clothes that might be a little tight.

sure it sounds dumb and doesn't make sense, but then that's why it's so deadly.

Except it wasn't implied she HAD an eating disorder until her costume started getting smaller.

yeah but i'm saying these things happen. your brain just starts on this weird disordered track and obsession happens and it doesn't make sense but there you are puking up your lunch because that one pair of jeans is a little tight and you have no idea how it got this far so fast all because of one stupid pair of jeans.

I understand that is the reality of things, believe me, but the show really didn't make it seem like that was going on. It's something they dropped the ball on. It reminds me of when Mercedes stopped eating because she was a Cheerio and Sue demanded she drop weight.

yeah i'm sure the show sucked because the show sucks with dealing with anything in a realistic way but it was more the idea that ED=stupid that bugged me. taking things too personally yet again probably.

Yeah, exactly. It's best not tr to think about "realism" when thinking about Glee...

I thought the worst part of that show was the fact that it existed in the first place

A person's weight can fluctuate about 10 pounds any given day based on a number of factors. Someone could weigh herself one day after s/he used the bathroom and get a totally different number the next because s/he had just eaten lunch. But this is Glee, there's no way the writers thought this through.
