DW - Donna Noble...while technically not a death I view it as a death of Self and I find it terribly upsetting.

No...why did you have to remind me. D:

I wish the Doctor had been willing to let her die if she wanted to. But I'd have preferred it if he convinced her that she had the potential to be amazing long before she met him and he wasn't essential for her to re-become amazing again even after being mindwiped.

I'm not keen on the idea that Donna might as well be dead without the memory of the Doctor, and having Donna believe in herself and her worth as a person and in the proof of what she achieved so much that she would actually consent to have her memory erased and take a leap of faith, believing that she would be able to rediscover her amazing-ness all on her own despite not remembering the Doctor would have been...like...the most perfect resolution ever.

I agree with all of that. I definitely don't want Donna dead, but forcing her to live was wrong. The Doctor had good intentions, but nothing about that ending set right with me.

But I'd have preferred it if he convinced her that she had the potential to be amazing long before she met him and he wasn't essential for her to re-become amazing again even after being mindwiped. That would have been amazing but also wouldn't have been a punch in the gut, and so it never would've happened. But man do I want that to be the ending instead... :( Donna deserved a happy ending.

I have no idea WHY it had to be some big punch in the gut though. I get that the Doctor can't have nice things, but that doesn't apply to companions. And there was the thing with Hand!Ten and Rose in the finale so he was already miserable -- was that seriously not enough? Not to mention season 4 was basically a year of unceasing escalating misery for Ten, starting with blowing up Pompeii and getting progressively worse from there. It's not like a moderately hopeful ending for Donna would have mitigated his essential misery or something, and it would have been a way better ending for her.

Hey, I completely agree. Like you said, he had a terrible year, even without losing Donna the way he did, things were bad enough. From what (little) I've experienced of Who, TPTB just don't like giving the Doctor a break. Ever.

Yes to all of the above. Seriously, I agree with everything you both said. Mostly the whole this pisses me off and upsets me to the point where all I can say is Why Donna Noble, whhhhyyyyyy? and raise my fist to the sky in dramatic fashion.

...I haven't seen the second half of season 4 (although I've been told what happens to Donna) and I don't mind spoilers so...uh...what's Hand!Ten?
