This. I'm fiscally conservative, but socially liberal, so voting can be a pain in the ass when you have folk judging your "true allegiances!!!" when you either choose between throwing your vote, or choosing a practical candidate.

I hear you. .

poor you

how dare people assume you're a homophobe when you only voted to give one the power to make life worse the lgbt community

Re: that's disappointing

I actually didn't vote for Romney. I can just see why people did. Some people really felt Obama would've been worse for the economy. For them, that took predence.

Re: that's disappointing

(Anonymous) 2012-12-03 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
So those people don't care about minorities, AND don't understand the economy. 'Kay then.

Will you quit acting like the Sole Depository of Truth and Justice? Because it's extremely annoying and will not help your side (whichever it may be)at all

That's exactly how democracy works. Well done.

Re: that's disappointing

(Anonymous) 2012-12-03 07:37 am (UTC)(link)
It doesn't but it doesn't change the fact that once you vote for one party, you vote for all of their ideologies. You might vote for them only because you agree with their financial politics, but they'll still get the power to do all of those other things they want.

I'm always confused when a rightwinger refuses to admit responsibility for this.

It's like smokers yesterday...oooh don't you know what is in the air anyway? Stop demonizing us!!! I'd laugh but it's just so sad.

True. The way I see it, I either pick a representative (we vote for members of parliament here. Not a cic or even the party leaders) that I completely agree with, but will certainly not win, or I vote for the one that has a chance, but seems like a "lesser evil" of the others. Still, like with the US, the party with the majority isn't a hivemind, or at least it shouldn't act as one.

Maintain your confusión.

lmao "fiscally conservative, but socially liberal"

poor people aren't people, dontcha know

Re: that's disappointing

(Anonymous) 2012-12-03 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. That's totally what that means.

I'd like to throw you and every person who uses either "conservative" or "liberal" as a pejorative off a fucking cliff so the logical people who actually want to talk to one another and start fixing our fucking problems can do something. People like you on both sides of the aisle have completely destroyed everything, and you're so lost in your own ass that you can't see it. You just sit there and shout "EVERY PERSON WHOSE VIEWS DO NOT LINE UP EXACTLY WITH MINE IS EVIL" and bicker amongst each other while the world burns.

I actually wrote a thoughtful reply to explain exactly what I mean when I use those terms to explain my political preferences, but I then I realised I was likely responding to a peasant.

Re: that's disappointing

(Anonymous) 2012-12-03 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry but... that doesn't hold water with me. That's like saying you value your cash more than other people's rights. Not to mention the Republicans are fucked up fiscally, so it's not even a good bet based just on that merit.

Re: that's disappointing

(Anonymous) 2012-12-03 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
There are people who are homeless largely because of the state of the economy. If said people are more concerned with economic issues at the moment, does that make them bad people who only value their cash?

Re: that's disappointing

(Anonymous) 2012-12-03 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
If those people believe that the Republicans--the people who want to lower taxes on the RICH, and believe in the "trickle down" method which has been shot down--will help them in any way, they probably shouldn't be voting because they're not informed enough.

Re: that's disappointing

(Anonymous) 2012-12-03 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
You do know there are economically prosperous places with republican leadership, right? Who have specifially become so under that party's leadership?

If republicans always failed financially, they'd have been voted out a long time ago.

Re: that's disappointing

(Anonymous) 2012-12-03 07:01 am (UTC)(link)
I really wish this was true. But it isn't.

Re: that's disappointing

(Anonymous) 2012-12-03 08:39 am (UTC)(link)
What, should we hold tests before voting? What's the minimum passing grade to be allowed to vote?

Also, breaking news: other people may be just as informed as you are and still think differently from you.
Honestly, chalking it all up to ignorance sounds very presumptuous.

That's fine. I'm not entitled to people respecting the way I choose to vote. However simplified they generalise what they assume what weight to which priorities i assign.

Then again, I'm not in America. Your political left is more like my right. My bad for replying to a thread with the US as the topic.

Re: that's disappointing

(Anonymous) 2012-12-03 08:21 am (UTC)(link)
ayrt I'm from Canada... sorry, I assumed you were american bc of the topic!

I know in Canada at least it's not the same, the conservatives != republicans, so it's a different voting matter (and lgbt rights aren't on the chopping block like in the US). As you said, American left is almost like our right.

Where are you from?

Re: that's disappointing

[personal profile] cloud_riven 2012-12-03 08:38 am (UTC)(link)
No need to apologise. Like I said, it's understandable given what I replied to!

I'm also Canadian. Sorry for not mentioning it. I'm in Alberta though, so I tend to vote differently depending on which level of government. Federal level means I have absolutely no reason not to vote green since my area is guaranteed to be conservative anyways.
