(Anonymous) 2012-12-03 12:08 am (UTC)(link)what I mean is, you either have to make your personal taste suck it up and appreciate a hideous design for its hideousness, or else admit that your desire for accuracy outweighs your good taste. If you can make yourself suck it up and appreciate the design, you can find yourself still making it, wearing it, and enjoying it despite the fact you know it's hideous. But if you just can't get over that, you sacrifice your accuracy boner for something that you find aesthetically pleasing - go for the concept rather than that dress.
there's also a third option: admitting you can't sacrifice accuracy for aesthetics no matter how desperately you like the idea, shrug, and move on to another costume you feel passionate about. I usually am a big advocate of cosplaying who and however you want, but even I have walked away from a costume saying "nope" because I just couldn't sacrifice something. It's a perfectly legitimate solution and no one can tell you you're horrible for deciding you just don't want to do that costume. Proclaim your love for it despite the fact you're not going to ever wear it, and be proud of that decision.
