I've actually studied this topic in depth and I've come to the totally unbiased conclusion that someone, somewhere along the way wanted them to be a couple. But it was Archie comics so they tacked on the 'sisters' thing.

Even in the 70s cartoon they act married. They call each other "sister" maybe twice, and that's the only reference.

Iirc, Kevin Keller is the only queer character in Archie comics, but he's only a very recent (and adorable) addition. If only it wasn't too late for them to backtrack and retcon those two as sisters though. /sigh

do you happen to have research notes handy? I feel like I REALLY should have paid more attention as a kid.

Yep, that's right. Hopefully there will be more in the future I mean, Kevin can't keep dating random nameless background boys forever right? Nah, he probably can. There is a future story where he gets married, though. I haven't read it yet.

All my notes are in my head. But here is an episode where they apparently sleep right next to each other. Also Sabrina has cute costumes, and Archie is apparently allowed to bring guns to school.

Kevin's married in Life With Archie (the title set in the future), so that's 2.

are you sure about that? I've thought Jughead was gay for a long time.

I wish! particularly because I ship him with Kevin.

He used to be just your friendly ol' woman hater until he became friends with Betty, and writers decided misogynists just weren't cool. And there's also that time he was given love interests (in an archie love triangle style), and when he was with Archie's daughter because time trsveler or something.

If anything, he reads more asexual, or aromantic atm, imo.
