Re: cosplay woes
Re: cosplay woes
(Anonymous) 2012-12-03 06:02 am (UTC)(link)Thanks! I feel like now I have some sort of justification to play around with it.
I'm thinking of maybe trying to play around with the cut - keeping the silhouette, but going for a more Victorian type of style instead of the actual design's plain cut.

Re: cosplay woes
Hmm... I'm a bit afraid that changing the hair color like that might make him not really recognizable. I mean, I'd make the sword, which is like HAI CLOUD HERE, but maybe a paler platinum would work better?
I guess I'll have to do a study of Amano's designs and see what to go with... adding random details is one thing, but they gotta be the *right* random details, you know?
At the same time, dang... I thought this would be the *easy* cosplay XD
after my last one, I wanted something relatively cheap and not a big deal! and here you ruined it
Re: cosplay woes
There actually is Amano artwork of Cloud, so I would go off that as a basis for the hair, since the hair for WM Cloud is just his usual hair with pigtails and a tiara. And Amano's tiaras... ohohoho. But yeah, recognizability is a factor. I tend to go all out, myself... but the nice thing about Amano-izing FF cosplay is that no two people's costumes will necessarily look alike. (There's a pic of me with two other Amano Celeses at Katsucon, and two Amano Lockes. Doing a chorus line kick. XD None of the costumes are alike - and there actually IS Amano artwork of all of them!) You can go as far or as not-far as you want, and it'll be awesome.
It also occurred to me, you know how you can get three different "levels" of dresses through the minigames? Well, the polygon model always looks the same no matter which dress and accessories you get. So technically, you could make the dress non-ugly by just tinkering with the style but keeping the same color scheme and so on, and say that you got the GOOD dress. ;)
Re: cosplay woes
I would probably do a more "standard" Cloud wig, because I'm afraid that if I didn't, it would just look like I don't know how to style a Cloud wig.
I guess there would be two factors - one, is adding details, because Amano loves little colorful details to stuff. Like you said, beads, ribbons and whatnot. But I would also try to cut the dress differently, and maybe play a bit with the shades of the fabric (because horrible purple+red is... special).
Haha, good point about the model! "what, you couldn't tell from the pixels that this is what the dress actually looks like?" XD
(by the way, your Kain costume is really amazing! I tried gessoing craft foam for Lucifer, and just applying+sanding took me fifty million hours, and tons of gesso. I'm trying to find faster techniques >_>)
