I realize.

But I still suspect they do some really weird things (especially in live-action) to make the lip sync and timing "fit". You have a bit more freedom in subtitles (though I agree I've seen some really crappy ones).

And even with crappy subtitles, I know enough languages to have notions of what is being said in a lot of foreign media. Even if not, at least you get the original intonation.

Though I must admit I'm completely lost with Japanese. I might understand the odd word, but I have no clue what's actually being said.

Well, subtitles also have a "fit" problem since they have to be read quickly and easily in the time they're flashed up on the screen. Although it's definitely MUCH more flexible than dubs overall, yeah.

As someone who grew up in a dub-happy country, I agree with you 100%. At least with subs I can figure out what the original thing was said, but in dubs I am at the mercy of regionalisms and weird dialogue shifts to make timing fit.

Haha, I'm the exact opposite. Japanese is the only language in which I have a clue of what's going on.

But even with that, yeah, I prefer subtitles, especially with live action. I think there's something about hearing the voice from the person that was there on set, acting it out... in addition to the whole syncing up with their lips thing.

Yes! I will no longer be alone! Congratulations on finishing your projects. I hope the cramps will dissipate soon!
