I'm planning on getting my dad coffee, probably something slightly more expensive than the stuff he usually gets. Because he's a cheapskate with a coffee addiction. It worked for father's day!

Be sneaky. If you've been getting any catalogues in the mail, leave them out and see if he picks any of them up. Or take him to the mall and pay attention to the things he looks at. Get him into a discussion about books or electronics. Don't ask him what he likes, but tell him what you like and see if he says anything. And if none of these tactics work...gift card?
