No I'm just messing with you. But with better knowledge of the situation now, that must be what he was hearing.
I told him about my experience in my work in Korea, where it was my job to basically absorb and digest 20+pg texts, and rephrase and regurgitate them to high school ESL speakers in a way that they found engaging, approachable, and enlightening.
Actually I'm pretty sure that's close to verbatim what I told him. He responded that was pretty much what my job was going to be as a copywriter.
Note: I don't know if that's true or not, and I didn't bother to check that out. I just accepted his explanation. Yes, that was stupid of me.
