It really depends on the kind of people you get to meet, though.
I know some people at work who would just laugh at me in my back for ages if I made the mistake of telling them the geeky / fannish things I've done.

It's the kind of people who make fun of everyone who isn't fitting their ideal of life, so I don't mind it personally, but they also happen to be the kind of people who are favored in that company at the moment... so I'd hate for it to come bite my a** later.

Yes I agree with this, I think it can come back to bite you, and it's not worth it in the workplace. In my case friends as well think it's really odd so I just don't say anything.

Also I'm only in online fandom as a comfort thing, I enjoy reading and commenting and chatting online, but that's about it. I'm not into dressing up or going to cons, but I have been to cons a bit many years ago. I didn't really like them, I didn't feel geeky enough.
