Pet stories AKA There's a rabbit on my pillow

(Anonymous) 2012-12-05 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
She's been really sad because her mate died and she's fallen asleep on my pillow.

It's very sweet, but I want to go to bed $-)

So, pet stories anyone?

When I was younger, I had three cats. We were having something done to our house, and one of them (Sonic) decided to climb into the back of the work man's van. Work man finished up, went home.

Few hours later, we get a knock on the door. It's the work man. He's got Sonic in his hands, and asks us if he's ours. He says he came back because he discovered Sonic in the back after getting home, and we were his last job.

He also said that, if we hadn't ended up being the owners, he'd have kept Sonic as his own, to look after him.

That's the biggest adventure any of my pets has been on, haha :)

I still have one of my cats (not Sonic) and he's 18 now. The old man of the house. Also have two dogs. They all have ridiculous adorable personalities :D

A rabbit on the pillow is the best. Happens to me regularly, and I hardly ever can stand to move her. ;)

I have only about a million pet stories, having had rabbits for 25 years and cats for the last few. I'll share something funny from this morning, though. I work from home, and was taking a walk through the house to get a bite to eat or something, and realized - all seven of the pets were asleep except one of the rabbits, who woke up as he heard me come by. I was like "I have to document this!" and went to get the camera, snapped a few pictures on my way back to the bedroom to get the bun there and the cat sleeping in front of my door...

Well, after I went into my bedroom, the cat in front of my door took a flying leap over the baby gate that keeps the rabbit in my room. And knocked it over. And she was like ":D FREEEEEEDOM!" and took off out into the library. So much for peaceful sleeping pets.

But after I got everything set right again, everyone went back to napping, including the bun who hadn't been napping earlier... so I made this montage of four sleeping cats and three dozing bunnies. :D

I have a keeper cat. His name is Chomper. He escorts me to bed every night, and waits for me to come to bed, too. When I don't come at a reasonable time, he gets up, finds me, bats me with a paw to get attention, and then does a "come hither" dance back to the bed. It's the most adorable thing.

One night when I was just coming back home from college for the first time, I went upstairs to my part-season bedroom. Chomper was sitting at the top of the stairs looking a little sad and lonely, but when he saw me, he perked right up and did a dolphin-arc in the air and squeaked. He's never a verbal cat, so him indicating his pleasure like that was just so damn adorable.

Also, not really a pet, but when I came home from Korea, one of my cows bellowed her welcome to me! She remembered me, and was excited to have part of her family back, so she started yelling at me to tell me she was happy. Her name is Delilah, she's a sweet cow.

My cat does not get along with either of my dogs, at all. The dogs just wanted to be friends with the cat, but the cat doesn't like dogs. Also the dogs have stolen the cat's food before, and when they did that, she ran up to them and hit them in the face. Now they are both terrified of her.

Anyway, my cat lives in the garage, and the dogs are indoor dogs, and for a while whenever I tried to go into the garage to visit the cat, my corgi would stand in front of the garage door and block me from going out there. I don't know if she was jealous or didn't want me to socialize with the enemy or if she was trying to warn me there was a face-scratching monster out there, but either way, she would stand in front of the garage door and cry when I tried to leave.

Also there is a stray dog at my college who likes to suddenly start following people around. But if you turn around and look at her, she looks away and tries to pretend she's not following. She once followed me halfway home (I live, like, a mile from school.) I'm not sure what she wants from people. I would've assumed she was hoping people would drop food, but whenever I gave her anything she would ignore it. Weird dog.

I have this wooden stepladder where you can open the top step and there's a little storage compartment. I've been using it to store spare cat toys.

Last week, I heard a soft bang and then saw my younger cat emerge from the room. At first, I thought she'd knocked something down, but I didn't see anything.

Then, a few days later, I was in the room and heard a series of similar noises. I looked, and saw her trying to lift the lid on the compartment. She's figured out that there are toys in there, and is trying to learn how to get them out.

Ever since then, I'll hear that noise occasionally. I'm very curious to see if she'll learn how to get it open long enough to get stuff out.
