Yeah...I think it mostly gets annoying when a person constantly references ONE show and ONLY that show all the time. It's so predictable and kind of second-hand-embarrassing, like they can't think of anything beyond that fandom or something.

It really does, like seriously annoying. I am quite happy being a geek, my living room is decorated with fandomy stuff, but I can talk about other things.

And half my fun is making fandomy references without anyone who really knows the fandom understands it and the rest are left in the unknown.

You pretty much just articulated my POV.

And yeah, it's fine if they wanna make a few jokes, but when they're the only Whovian (or member of any fandom) and they're making blatant references that clearly no one else finds funny, or when you're the only non-fan and your friends won't talk about anything else...
