All problems can be solved with a good bout of killing everything that looks different is pretty much the motto, you're right.

It made sense in the beginning of the show when the monsters were just pure evil, period. Once we had characters like Lenore, killing anything non-human without making sure you were doing the right thing no longer made sense.

Sure. And they've done a bit of that. But most of the monsters they take out, they only *find* because the monster has been killing people. So, it's really not a matter of 'looks different', it's a matter of 'wow, six people dead in bizarre circumstances that point to this'.

Oh, I don't disagree. There have been a few instances, though, when I think they made the wrong choice. Or at least the choice shouldn't have come quite as easily. I'd like to see a bit of conflicted feelings from them.

I think they do have that, but they just can't *indulge* them, you know? Hesitate, and the monster they're giving the benefit of the doubt rips their throat out.

The last few seasons, the things they've been fighting have been pretty much solidly 'not good'. Demons, Leviathan, Angels intent on bringing on the Apocalypse, the 'Mother of all Monsters'.... They haven't had to debate what they're doing because there wasn't any *choice*.

And really - their experiences have taught them that even stuff that *seems* benign and on their side (Ruby, Castiel) - can turn in an instant. So i get that they shy away, after a while, from being burned, and hate the thought that their own fear and training means they pretty much shoot first, question later. And the guilt over that is something i think they can't, themselves, afford to let in too much, or it paralyzes them. Dean gets suicidal, Sam goes off the rails.....

Don't they usually find the things they kill by looking for unexplained deaths? That's a little more than "looks different".

Actualy Dean and Sam have never been racist to anyone who was truly pure human. Oh, "racist" to monsters that kill people, yes (that's more specie-ism though) but not just because Black Guy is black (even Henricksen, the FBI guy who was chasing them in seasons 2 & 3, or Gordon, the hunter who decided Sam had to die, or even hating the Alpha Vampire (they just hate him because he's the Alpha Vampire)).

They do tend to act a bit shy about gay implications, but not out of homophobia (both of them have been nice enough to gay people), just about when people presume they're gay (and screwing each other). Dean has even stopped reacting to quips about him and Cas.
