(Anonymous) 2012-12-06 01:14 am (UTC)(link)He is part of a group of characters that parody various stereotypes; he is the "Tumblr SJW". (Another character is the reaction-gif-spammer-"feels", another is a "Gamer Girl", another an otherkin, another a "pick up artist", etc.)
The teenaged characters we've met of that species (troll), are usually presented as actual internet trolls and various internet weirdos. (Furries, role-players, angry-capslock complainers, juggalos, fans of weird furry or even animal porn, "tough guys", "nice guys", "you are all my puppets-master manipulators", etc.)

Okay, as much fun as I have with rping him on here, Kankri, the troll, is pretty much a minor character. A fun one, but a minor one.
Homestuck is... I don't know if it's really that complicated, but it's long. And convoluted. In a way I and many like me enjoy. But think of it more like a series of illustrated novels then a comic. It works more like one. But with music and animation and interactive games.
Homestuck is about 4 kids that play a game that purports to let them save the world. This game is a space/time/reality manipulator; think Jumanji as a PC RPG. As the kids play, they discover they will be able to create a new universe... and eventually end up getting in contact with the previous players that made theirs.
Don't start it looking for the grey people. it's laid out like a seven act play (currently it's on act 6) and you don't really see anything of the grey "trolls" till act 3, and won't really know them as characters till act 5. People like them cause they are fun but they aren't the point of the comic.
It's a slow bulding comic but an awesome one. But it does start slow. I've previously said another page, but based on some feedback from those who read, I'd say if you haven't been hooked by the page:
"[S] Rose: Youth roll right out the front door."
It's probably not for you and that's okay.
It's worth the slog though, in my opion. Hope you like.
