I love it when Republicans assume that the idea of "tolerance" must inherently extend to being tolerant of their bigoted, hateful asses.

Newsflash: I'm a leftist but I sure as fuck don't tolerate bigots. And if you're a Republican, you're a bigot.

Re: Trolling troll troll

(Anonymous) 2012-12-06 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
well let's not be hasty now

it's possible that you're not a bigot but you tolerate bigots, or are ignorant of the connection between the Republican party and bigotry

seriously though, in general, i am really, really uncomfortable with any argument that tries to define all of one's political opponents, or an entire political party, or any massive swath of the population, as bad people. which is kind of problematic in this situation because there's a large section of the Republican party which is legitimately nothing but crazy bigots. but there are all kind of reasons why people might still identify with the Republican party as a whole and I am not at all comfortable with saying "fuck all Republicans"

Re: Trolling troll troll

(Anonymous) 2012-12-06 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
The Republican party platform is incredibly, disgustingly bigoted. If you vote for them anyway, you are a bigot. Period. There's no getting around that. I don't care if you voted for them because you somehow think their ideas about the economy are good (I don't know how, but okay), you are still enabling, supporting and perpetuating bigotry, and that makes you a bigot.

So I'm not really uncomfortable with it at all is what I'm saying.

Re: Trolling troll troll

(Anonymous) 2012-12-06 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
And I'm not at all uncomfortable in calling you an uninformed, ignorant asshole. So there's that.

Re: Trolling troll troll

(Anonymous) 2012-12-07 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
Here's what I've been telling my socially-left-and-fiscally-conservative friends: by voting with the Republican party, you're essentially saying that your take-home pay is more important than my partner and I being able to visit each other in the hospital, or adopt children, or get married. If you're cool with telling your LGBTQ friends that, go right ahead, because I will still think you're a douchebag. Obama and the Democrats are by no means perfect, and I'm actually pretty pissed with the way Obama's handing the whole Gaza issue right now, but I'd much rather side with them than a party that has repeatedly tried to infringe upon my right to regulate my own body and my own relationships.

Re: Trolling troll troll

(Anonymous) 2012-12-06 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
So all Republicans everywhere are bigots now? Even the Republicans of color and LGBT in the party? Oh right, sorry, I forgot that they don't count. I personally am not opposed to gay marriage and other such rights issues, it's just not the issue I'm voting on right now. To quote my sister, having the ability to get married to whom you want really won't help you if you don't have a job.

You voted for Romney,

for economic reasons?

lol

Re: Trolling troll troll

(Anonymous) 2012-12-06 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
I don't always agree with you, but I agree with you HARD right now.

Re: Trolling troll troll

(Anonymous) 2012-12-06 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
THIS EXACTLY.

When someone in the UK understands US politics better than Romney-supporters, there's a problem.

Re: Trolling troll troll

(Anonymous) 2012-12-06 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, all Republicans are bigots.

I don't give a shit if you say you're only voting because ~omgjobs~ (even though Republicans don't give a fuck if you have a job, but that's another story entirely), when you do? You're ALSO supporting the Republicans' bigoted as fuck agenda.

You may be voting because you've somehow bought into the Republican fantasy that providing the disgustingly rich with even more money will bring you prosperity, but while you do it, you're taking away people's actual human rights. You. You are voting to take away people's basic human rights.

I don't know what else to call a person who wants to take away minority's human rights but a bigot.

Re: Trolling troll troll

(Anonymous) 2012-12-06 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
And Democrats care if you have a job? No. Democrats would rather you didn't have a job because then you're dependent on them for your entitlements and benefits!

See what I did there...

Re: Trolling troll troll

(Anonymous) 2012-12-06 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
Way to miss the point, moron.

Here, let me make it easier for you:

Re: Trolling troll troll

(Anonymous) 2012-12-06 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I see what you did there: You lied.

Re: Trolling troll troll

(Anonymous) 2012-12-06 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
ayrt

...wow. Not only did you COMPLETELY miss the point, but your response is completely, entirely ignorant.

First of all, Democrats are actually the job-providers in this country. They're the ones who give a flying fuck about job security, safety and worker's rights. They're the ones making laws that say you can't just refuse to hire anyone who's black, or gay, or a woman. They're the ones who are OPPOSING Republican anti-union legislation (unions being the guarantors of decent pay and good workplace conditions). They're the ones who, if you recall, bailed out the auto industry and saved thousands of American jobs.

Secondly, Democrats want no such thing. They're not Communists, for fuck's sake. Democrats want to improve the system - those "entitlements and benefits" you refer to which actually comprise our social safety net for the POOR and NEEDY who would starve without it - and make it easier for people who find themselves in bad situations to get out of them. Studies show that something like 2/3s of people on welfare are off of it in three years - Democrats want to up those numbers. They want to offer support to single mothers, who by themselves comprise something like 60% of households in poverty and on welfare (42% of single mothers and their children live in poverty). Healthcare to those who can't afford it. And so on. How can you possibly crawl out of poverty if one bout of pneumonia will sink you so far in debt you'll never get out?

What do Republicans offer in return? More money for the super-rich. More tax breaks for the super-rich. Lower minimum wage so more workers have to work more to scrape even the least living. No restrictions on sending jobs overseas. Less protections for workers. They advocate for the removal of workplace discrimination laws and, thus, the ability of employers to discriminate against minorities in hiring and worker treatment. They advocate for less so-called entitlement programs so that the poor get even poorer and are even less able to get out of poverty. They are HORRIBLE for the economy and HORRIBLE on jobs.

And that's not even going into the whole "and Republicans also don't think POC, women, LGBT people, the disabled, or poor people should have any human rights" thing.

Now, I know you're trying to use hyperbole, implying that that's what I was doing, but it wasn't - I was stating the actual truth. Republicans are bigots and fools who somehow have been led to believe that feeding only the rich will feed the poor, when decades of economic policy have proven the exact opposite.

For fuck's sake.

DA

Sorry, but that's not how it works. When you are stripping away human rights? That is the only issue that matters. And your sister is wrong. Tell her to ask gays and lesbians who've had to stand by and let their partner's homophobic family members make medical decisions for their partner because they can't, sometimes can't even get in to see them, can't get on their partner's health insurance or has no standing in an adoption despite the fact it's their child too.

Yeah, no. Your sister's wrong and so are you.

And the thing of it is? The economy got so fucking bad because George W. Bush fucked it over big time and the Republicans spent the entire election doing a wild fan dance trying to keep people from realizing it and realizing that Obama actually DID improve the economy a lot.

And the bitch of it is, as transparent and as bad as it was...

It worked.

Ya'll are morons.

Re: Trolling troll troll

You just misspelled y'all, probably the most obvious of contractions, so let's not be hasty.

You do realize when Bush left office, the deficit was $407 billion. It's now $16 TRILLION. Blaming that on Bush is ridiculous.

That all you got to come back with? Pretty weak (and, well, dumb):

Yet again I am begging any and all people on F!S who claim to have voted for Romney for economic reasons to SHOW YOUR WORK. Lay it out for me. What supports the assertion he would be better for the economy than Obama? First person to just mention him being a CEO loses.

Re: Trolling troll troll

(Anonymous) 2012-12-06 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
I'd also really love to hear their reasoning for why their economic interests should trump the rights of minorities to, you know, have their basic human rights respected. They never seem to have an answer for that except "BUT THE ECONOMY--"

Re: Trolling troll troll

(Anonymous) 2012-12-06 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
That's a nice broad brush you're painting with there. Must be easy being you, with no messy nuances to bother with. I mean, I could say that "as a leftist, you must be okay with stealing money from people who worked for it and handing it to people who didn't," but I'm not going to paint with that brush because NEWSFLASH: I don't know you. And you don't know me.

And I'm not going to own your label of "bigot" any more than you would own my label of "thief."

Re: Trolling troll troll

(Anonymous) 2012-12-06 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
Your party runs on a platform of disgusting bigotry against pretty much every minority group there is. That's what makes you a bigot. You support, enable and perpetuate bigotry. It's really not that difficult.

Re: Trolling troll troll

(Anonymous) 2012-12-06 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
And I think that's a ridiculous simplification full of unmitigated horseshit, but you can feel whatever floats your boat, anon. I guess the minorities that are members of the GOP are just internalizing self-hate or something.

Re: Trolling troll troll

(Anonymous) 2012-12-06 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
Any person who votes for a party who is against basic human rights for a group of people NOT LIKE THEM because they're promising a better economy (after destroying it for eight years) is enabling bigotry. Therefore, you are a bigot.

It's not oversimplification. It's just simple.

Re: Trolling troll troll

(Anonymous) 2012-12-06 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
The fact that you equate taxation with theft just proves that your opinions about the economy aren't any more legitimate or intelligent than your opinions about social issues and bigotry.

Re: Trolling troll troll

(Anonymous) 2012-12-12 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
Yay! According to this person, I'm a bigot solely because of my party affiliation!! They don't tolerate me! Oh noes, I'm such an awful person!

Oh wait... I just remembered. Your opinion of me doesn't matter. I don't give a shit what you think of me based on my party affiliation/political ideology. And for the record, I think you're a hateful brat, leftist or no leftist.

Good day.
