Re: Sick too long.

The usual things come to mind--lean protein, eggs, dark green leafy vegetables (eat them with a little fat, and some citrus or perhaps some sliced red pepper for the vitamin C, which makes their iron more bioavailable), red grapes, nuts of all kinds, avocados, citrus fruits (the whole fruit is always preferable to the juice, which tends to give you a big hit of sugar and a corresponding slump). For snacks, hummus with pita chips and crudites is good--or an ounce of cheese with some nuts and an apple, or yogurt with berries (frozen fruit is fine). If you find it hard to eat breakfast, try making yourself a smoothie with fresh fruit and yogurt.

If you have recently had to take antibiotics, your gut flora may not have recovered yet--and these are important in ways that are Beyond the Scope of This Post to describe. Look for yogurt with active cultures, or better yet, kefir. Maybe even one of those probiotic supplements.

Other things that may help--make sure you're getting at least 6 hours of sleep a night (not easy to do if you're a student, but keep trying). Do everything you can to make sure it is restful sleep--avoid coffee after 6 in the evening, block sources of light, and try to spare a half hour before bedtime to wind down and relax. Melatonin helps some people, but a cup of chamomile tea is often enough to make me sleepy.

You've heard it before, but exercise can often help you have more energy--if you feel you can't carve out an hour, try half an hour, to do something you enjoy.

But really, while these things are good for you, you've had enough repeated illnesses that you should probably at least consider seeing a doctor and getting some tests. There's always a chance that something could be going on that you need to nip in the bud at once.

Good luck--hope you feel better soon.

Thanks so much for the extensive healthy food list. Once I get my appetite back, I will definitely look into procuring some of these things.

As for the sleep thing-- my body has been conking itself out for periods up to 10 hrs at a time in order to recover from the bugs, so no worries there.

I do try to walk a mile everyday, two if I have the time, since my campus is pretty big. Unfortunately, even that small amount generally gets me exhausted and my muscles twitching from exertion.

I'm thinking about seeing a doctor within the week. I'm going home for vacation pretty soon, so I don't want to truck anything home that would hit my family.

Again, thanks so much for taking the time to give me some suggestions. I will definitely look into the dietary stuff, especially

OP, I'm really glad you're going to see a doctor soon, because TBH, what with the general exhaustion and the loss of appetite, this is sounding more and more like something you should get to the bottom of ASAP.

Take care!
