Not OP, but I'm pretty much in the same place, for the same reason as the OP...and because when you look confused they'll tell you 'Oh, it's from DW, you'd need to watch it to get it...' and then go on about how awesome the show is, and how much you totally need to watch it. I've even had some actually try to 'trick' me into watching it.

Also, who cares if the OP has had conversations with other fans who didn't bring it up? That's not really their point so much.

That's such a dick move. I can see how that would be really really annoying. I guess I'm lucky that I have not met people who try and work random fandom inside jokes into random conversations.

OP did. They said they've yet to meet a Who fan that they can have a conversation with. However I'm sure there are a lot of Who fans who you might have conversations with and not have Who come up at all.

You really are - and that kind of...idk, fanatism is really, really off putting when it comes to getting into something new.

Hyperbole happens, getting hung up on it, for lack of a better term, really comes across as missing the point of what the OP.
