I think I've stumbled upon more x-over rps than one fandom rps, actually.

Uh, yeah? I've had more the opposite problem: all the rps are panfandom. What canons do you run in, that crossovers are strange to you? All we have that's pure cast, is the freakin' dressing room. And trust me, some canons don't benefit from being plopped down alongside every other popular story in existence. So not having to do that would be awesome.

I'm guessing they're used to RP venues other than LJ and DW. Forums and whatnot seem to strongly trend towards single fandom or OC settings, in my experience, whereas journal-based is almost all panfandom. I have no idea how it turned out that way, but it's what I've seen.

You really mustn't be familiar with the DW rp culture if crossover rping surprises you so. Most, if not basically all, big DW rp games and comms are crossover. Why? Getting a cast together for a single canon, especially if it is an older canon is downright impossible. Plus, a game just focused on a single canon/cast can be pretty limiting in terms of members it can take on.

Besides, in general, the whole crossover aspect if the most fun.

Reading panfandom RPs is a ton of fun, especially when your favorite characters get to meet and their muns are excellent at writing and characterization.

And yeah ... I know it would screw with the setting in unacceptable ways, but I have definitely run into a few games that left me wanting to play as myself. Not practical, not a good idea, etc. Still, dreaming's free, amirite?

Same here, OP. I am a roleplayer, but I haven't done it in so long. It's hard for me to get people interacting with my characters, since they're always from obscure or fading canons. I even track dear_mun tags lol

Chatacters sounds really adorable. I think the same myself, sometimes, for while people tend to not know how they'd react until they're in the situation, it's still fun to imagine! You could make up a character with some of your quirks and see what happens, OP.
