Just out of curiosity, what was wrong with him that he had to do all that?

He suddenly he couldn't pee at all for the duration of the episode. I think it was something psychological? Because it resolved itself after he got some rest and/or had his epiphany of the episode or something. (It's been a while since I watched the episode.)

Spasm of the muscles that control urination is a known side effect of painkillers like Vicodin, if you're on them for chronic pain. Result: you can't pee. Friend of mine who has chronic pain has been through the same thing and said the show pretty much got it right and it really, really sucks.
