Okay, I know that everyone is getting down on the OP for obvious reasons, but I have to admit that sometimes I think about these things, too. Like, right before the seventh Harry Potter book was released, I couldn't help but think, "Well, statistically speaking, there have to be Harry Potter fans who died before finding out how this series ends" and then I got kind of sad about it. Then I felt better thinking about how there's probably Harry Potter books in heaven, and how the people who died before the seventh book came out got to read it before the rest of us Still Living, and how the heaven version is probably better anyway, because it's perfectly tailored to each individual reader. Like fanfiction, but you don't know it's fanfiction.

....and yeah, admittedly, I've given it too much thought.

as long as you understand that the most important thing about the situation is not that these people died before they got to read harry potter, it's that THESE PEOPLE DIED.

I actually had a friend who died before the fifth book came out. She was a huge fan of the series and I definitely thought about it like that. I think it was a bit of a coping mechanism for me, in a weird way. Every time another movie or book came out after she died, I'd always think about her, even though we were never terribly close (she was more a friend of a friend, but we hung out in mutual parties, and she died really young, in her teens). Just one of those things.

So, I sort of get OP. When a tragedy that massive happens on that scale, it can be really hard to comprehend. Relating it to something that you know and understand and identify with makes sense. It may not be socially acceptable to express that thought (hence the nature of the secret), but I don't think it's unusual. For example, I had a friend really distraught over the earthquake because of the (presumed) loss of animal lives. It doesn't mean she wasn't also upset about all the other terrible things, or the loss of human life. It was just how her brain could best cope/translate the event.

Having said that, I hope OP knows that the thought expressed in the secret is pretty messed up. :/

There's a difference between thinking that - or, if you knew a Harry Potter fan who died before the 7th book came out, being sad when the 7th book came out for that reason - and having that be your reaction to a massive tragedy where a bunch of people died. I think.

Although your speculations about fanfiction in heaven are pretty amazing. Also "Fanfiction in heaven" sounds like a great title for a fandom cover of "Cheeseburger in paradise"
