Not to defend the OP (who I think is being dumb and insensitive), but there *are* fans who die waiting for things, and it does suck. I knew a Harry Potter fan who died between Books 5 and 6, and her big regret about dying was not being able to finish things - fandom things included. I also had a friend-of-a-friend who died suddenly before seeing Phantom Menace, and that *really* sucked for his friends, knowing how much he wanted to see the new films (this was of course before we all realized Phantom Menace sucked ass).

Also, those "is your favorite manga author alive" message posts? Even if we as fans don't know the creators personally, they're people who have affected our lives and I think it's only natural to want to know they're okay. Having the creator of your fandom die before finishing isn't fun (yep that's happened to me too) - there's a reason so many people are worried about George RR Martin, and why Stephen King got so many "I'm so glad you're not dead, now can you please finish Dark Tower before you *do* keel over?" fanletters. Fandom is really important to a lot of people and is their escape from how crap Real Life can be. It sucks to have fandom suddenly become a casualty of Real Life crap.

Tl;dr - it sucks to leave stuff undone, or to have things left undone.

Yeah, this. I always feel kinda bad when I remember that there are people out there who died without being able to see to the end something that brought their life joy, like a fandom they were passionate about or a project they were working on.
Obviously that plays second fiddle to feeling bad that they died, but that doesn't mean I can't also feel sorry for them that they died before they could read the last Harry Potter book or finish the novel they were writing or whatever else.

My dad died three months before the Two Towers premiered. The year before, he had watched Fellowship and loved it, but refused to read the books until he finished watching the movies. And while obviously what pained me the most was that my dad died... I still sometimes get teary eyed when I watch the Two Towers and The Return of the King when it hits me that dad never got to see his favorite character (Sam) kick so much ass, or found out why Gandalf didn't let Frodo kill Gollum, or how they got to dispose of the ring.
