it's because the writing is particularly good

wouldn't that be a good reason to stop reading something? after he died, the -story- that I was reading for, was over. no reason to keep reading.

you know, it's ok to be a fan of a series for a character and not necessarily or solely for the story. you, or anyone else, don't get to define why people like a particular fandom and decide if it makes them a good fan.

Did you even read my original comment (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomsecrets/71980.html?thread=10477100&style=mine#t10477100)? That's exactly what I said.

There's nothing wrong with that -- different strokes for different folks and all -- but I can understand why some people would find that hard to respect. If they actually give you grief for it though, they're just being asshats. No one's in a position to judge others for how they enjoy a series.
