Oh, please... they acted like Finn was God's Gift to Singing when he has a worse voice than Kurt or Artie. But then, he's White, straight, and able-bodied, so of course he should be the lead.

I was thinking of Finn too. And honestly this show is not at all about choosing what's realistic first and foremost, so that explanation doesn't fly with me.

That means that Finn shouldn't be the lead, not that Tina should. Don't get me wrong, I'd much rather have a talented male singer in place of Finn, but I'd rather not have two bad singers taking all the songs. I agree that it's not fair and kind of racist, but what can you do?

Not that my opinion matters, considering I stopped watching mid season two. Meh.

A big voice isn't everything. Mercedes lacks expression, Rachel has some very sloppy habits in her singing (every time I hear her turn "what" into "HOOOWHAT" I wanna throw something at the screen), and as far as Marley's voice goes she and Tina are about even -- I think Tina's voice is a little bit stronger, honestly, though Marley has some nice flexibility.

Add to this that Tina is by far a better dancer than any of these three, and she should still be given a lead even if she wasn't Marley's senior.

Those two aren't in Glee Club anymore, they've both graduated. So whether they're better singers than her or not is irrelevant to whether she should be the lead female singer of Glee Club as it is now.

She might not be as good as Lea Michele or Amber Riley, but she's better than most of them.

Ugh, this. Not to mention Kate Hudson, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Coach Beiste. All of whom can sing in an amateurish way, but in know way can match Jenna Ushkowitz's technique or training.

Yeah. Plus they haven't really given her an opportunity to showcase except when all of the other girls were in the Troubletones or banned for whatever Rachel's plotdevice was that I can't remember... and she ROCKED IT.

While I agree with the in terms of competitions, there's still the issue that say, Grease wasn't a competition, there's no winning the fall musical, so there's still no reason to bring in Santana when Unique had to withdraw. Why on earth would they have cast Jenna Ushkowitz if she wasn't a passable singer? She might not be as strong as the others, but again, such is HS where you work with what you have in the club.

Also, on the matter of realism, wouldn't choirs typically pick arrangements that don't feature a soloist? Several of my friends were in chamber choirs during HS, and there was maybe one or two solos per year.

I was so hoping there would be a call-back to Finn saying "We'll think of something for you to do" in the pilot when he completely screwed Tina over on Rizzo. He's never had any respect for Tina, not even when she was scoring touchdowns.

First, as people have mentioned before, Glee has never been realistic. Second, Jenna Ushkowitz had four solos after a twelve-year run on Broadway in various musicals. Meanwhile, Heather Morris had no musical experience to speak of before Glee and has sung twice the solos. (I'm not bashing her; she's obviously talented and I enjoy listening to her songs. I'm just using her as an example.)

I have yet to see Marley be the amazing singer she said to be. She's good yes, but not obviously better than Tina.

I don't think it's "realistic" since Quinn and Finn, who are both shitty even when auto-tuned, got parts, but I'm not clamoring for her to get leads since she's also bad. Artie's great, though, but he doesn't even show up in some episodes.

Finn and Quinn got to sing a lot. Tina could have just sung during the club not necessarily during a competition. Even if her voice was so atrocious she couldn't sing that doesn't mean you have to ignore her character completely. Plus if they ever wanted to stick to her 'goth' type of character, she could of been the window to some different types of songs.
