I don't watch the TV show, but that's a huge departure from what I remember from the comics. And the video game (which appears to have very little connection to the comics) stars a black man protecting a mixed race girl. Interesting that television is the medium where they're making those kinds of decisions.

Everything I hear about the game makes me think it's better than the show and comic combined.

That depends entirely on how much you like making gut-punch decisions and having to live with the flesh-shredding consequences, imo.

The video game takes place right before the comics start so there are some minor cameos of characters who then go on to show up in the comic. I don't know if it's officially part of canon, but they did take great pains to keep their cameos alive.
